Student materials
Students must be prepared with a pencil or pen every day. Students are asked to supply one folder to be kept in the classroom for maintaining notes, as well as a 1 subject ruled notebook for vocabulary assignments. I suggest students also keep a separate folder for homework or completed assignments in their backpack. Earbuds or headphones are highly recommended as we will be using technology in the classroom.
Classroom expectations
1. Students must be prepared for class.
What you do need - Any homework assignments to turn in, a writing utensil (pencil/pen), your science folder, headphones or earbuds. What you do NOT need - Your cell phone, personal grooming items, food or drink (water bottles are allowed).
2. Students must speak appropriately at all times in the classroom.
What this means - No profanity, name-calling or insults. Speak with an appropriate voice volume at all times.
3. Students must be responsible for their performance in the classroom.
What this means - Ask questions, turn in your work, follow procedures, and ask Ms. D or another adult for help when it is needed.
4. Students must be respectful.
What this means - Respect your own and your peers' right to an education, be careful with classroom materials, listen to and follow instructions the first time they are given.
These expectations help keep our classroom a place for learning and investigation. Students who do not abide by class rules may be given an alternate assignment in lieu of participation in lab experiments or activities.

Why is science so important for middle schoolers?
Science is more than just a school subject of vocabulary and information...it is a way of questioning and understanding the world around us.
Middle schoolers are given the unique opportunity to learn about many different fields of science, and how science can explain our lives and our world in infinite ways. You never know where science will lead you!
